We received 3 cool fun books for the boys to read and review just as we left for the start of a big adventure to Istanbul. These are the books.

– Sophie In The Saddle – Dick-King Smith

–  Better Nate Than Never – Tim Federle

– Hank Zipzer The World’s Greatest Underachiever – The Colossal Camera Calamitysophie in the saddle

Sophie In The Saddle – Dick-King Smith is an amazing book, we read this lovely chapter book to our little boy, Sashin, who really loves animals. Sophie in the Saddle is the fourth book in the “Sophie” series. The series is about a little girl Sophie, who loves animals and wants to be a farmer one day and she is saving up all her money for it. In this book, Sophie and her family get a new puppy and they name him “Puddles” and they all go on an exciting holiday to Cornwall and they get to stay on a real farm. As you can guess, Sophie is the most excited of all. She gets to make friends with a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig named “Mee-blong-Jo” and decides to take horse-riding lessons. This is a cute, funny, story that I really enjoyed reading out loud to Sashin. A treat for 6-9 year olds.

Better Nate Than Never – Tim Federle My son Calin Nagoor (10) claims the book is very cool because Nate reminds him of himself, well a little bit. They both like to act and we both really like 1.41721New York. That is the quote from my son Calin. When I read the back of the book I knew he was going to like it, a lot. It is a lovely heartwarming story about Nate Foster, a thirteen year old boy from a small town, who dreams of performing in Broadway. He wants a part in a big theatre production, ET – The Musical in New York. With the help of his best friend Libby, they make up a plan to head to New York, Nate to audition, get the part and be back in Jankburg, Pennsylvania before his family notices that he is gone. However, things do not go as planned! You will love seeing New York City through the big excited eyes of Nate as he falls in love with the city. The story goes deeper and we learn lessons about love, family and forgiveness. It really is a “twinkling adventure tale”. Recommended for age group 10-13 years old.

Hank Zipzer The World’s Greatest Underachiever – The Colossal Camera Calamity This book is the latest in a series of Hank Zipzer The World’s Greatest Underachiever books written 511wruudmcL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-v3-big,TopRight,0,-55_SX324_SY324_PIkin4,BottomRight,1,22_AA300_SH20_OU02_by actor Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver. It is about a boy Hank Zipzer who is dyslexic and it shares his fun stories at school as a Fourth Grader. The books have also been turned into a TV series and you can watch it locally on the Disney channel on DSTV. Calin has read most of the other Hank Zipzer book, so was keen to read this. In this book, it is school photo time, which is Hank’s worst time of the school year as he always messes up the picture and looks silly. He is determined to do whatever he can to change that around this year but the school bully has other ideas! A funny laugh out loud book recommended for 8 years and older. The book is set in OpenDyslexic – a font which has been created to increase readability for readers with dyslexia.
